First edition, published as the inaugural volume of the Radosti ze života [Joys of Life] series. A collection of essays on modern cinema by Karel Teige , who examines the aesthetic possibilities of film as a distinctly modern medium, emphasizing its relationship to photography, montage, visual rhythm, and the principles of Poetist art.

The original photomontage wrappers, designed by Teige, combine photographic portraits, film stills, geometric elements, and filmstrip motifs in a Constructivist composition. An important example of his early graphic design and his application of avant-garde typography and photomontage to book production. A seminal publication of Czech avant-garde film theory.
