Complete set of 32 Lidová knihovna Aventina

Complete set of 32 Lidová knihovna Aventina (Aventinum People's Library) books published in 1924-29. All in VG or VG+ condition. Featuring a number of books by Karel Čapek, Josef Čapek and Olga Scheinpflugová (Karel Čapek's wife) prior to their split with Aventinum founder and owner Otakar Štorch-Marien over withheld royalties. Translated authors include Balzac, Flaubert, H.G. Wells, Ilya Ehrenburg and Louis Delluc. The design template changed every ten books with the first ten covers created by Karel Teige and Otakar Mrkvička. The design and typo for issues 11-32 is often attributed to František Muzika or Josef Čapek. The series includes the first edition of Josef Čapek's (Umělý člověk) with his illustrations of artificial intelligence, the seventh edition of Karel Čapek's R.U.R. with Josef Čapek's typo, a translation of Evgenii Zamjatin's We (My) that preceded Russian publication of the novel and Delluc's study of Charlie Chaplin that profoundly influenced Karel Teige. Each 17 x 11 cm in size.
