Early Jewish Response to World War I and the “Jewish Question,” 1915

An important contemporary Jewish response to the First World War by the Galician Jewish writer and ethnologist Binjamin Segel (1866–1931). Written during the first year of the conflict, the work addresses Jews in neutral countries, particularly the United States, and considers the consequences of the war for the Jewish populations of Eastern Europe. Segel discusses Jewish political loyalties, antisemitism, and the position of Galician and Russian Jewry against the background of the competing empires and wartime propaganda.

Third edition, issued in the 7th–9th thousand, indicating the considerable contemporary interest in the work. The rear wrapper advertises, among other publications, K. Helfferich's Deutschlands Volkswohlstand 1888–1913 and Hans Delbrück's Die Motive u. Ziele der russischen Politik nach zwei Russen.

Good condition. Original wrappers somewhat toned and soiled, with light creasing and wear to edges and corners; minor wear and splitting at spine ends. Title page with an early ownership stamp. Internally with occasional light spotting and staining; binding remains intact.
