Andrejew, Leonid – Studentenliebe. Drama in vier Aufzügen (Student Love: A Drama in Four Acts). Berlin: Bühnen- und Buchverlag russischer Autoren J. Ladyschnikow, 1909. 17.5 × 12.5 cm. 107 [1] pp.

First German edition of Leonid Andreyev's drama, translated from the Russian by Carl Ritter and published by the important Berlin-based Russian émigré press of J. Ladyschnikow. Bound in the publisher's striking Expressionist-style cloth binding, decorated with a repeating geometric mountain-and-sun motif in black, grey, and blue, with a blue paper title label on the spine. Contemporary ex-libris of Margit von Antal on the front pastedown.

Early twentieth-century German book design, reflecting contemporary Jugendstil and emerging Expressionist aesthetics. Andreyev was among the most influential Russian modernist writers of his generation, and Ladyschnikow's publishing house played a key role in introducing contemporary Russian literature to German readers in the years before the First World War.

Very good condition.
