August Rohling – Moje odpovědi rabinům aneb pět psaní o Talmudu a židovské rituelní vraždě [My Answers to the Rabbis, or Five Writings on the Talmud and Jewish Ritual Murder] Prague: Cyrillo-Methodějská knihtiskárna (J. Zeman a spol.), 1883. 8vo. 158 pp. Original printed wrappers. Translated into Czech by Maxmilián Jakubička. Very good condition, with some toning and light wear to wrappers. Czech translation of a work by the Austrian Catholic theologian August Rohling (1839–1931), whose writings were part of the antisemitic polemical literature of the late nineteenth century. Rohling promoted accusations against Judaism and the Talmud, including the false antisemitic allegation of Jewish ritual murder (the “blood libel”). The present work belongs to the controversy surrounding his attacks on Judaism and Jewish responses to them. An example of nineteenth-century Czech-language antisemitic literature and a primary source for the study of antisemitism, Catholic anti-Judaism, and the transmission of the blood-libel myth in Central Europe. Offered for historical and scholarly study.
