Franz Josef Schwoy. Kurzgefaßte Geschichte des Landes Mähren (A Brief History of the Land of Moravia) Brünn (Brno): Joseph Georg Traßler, 1788. 8vo, 224 pp. Contemporary full leather, gilt-tooled spine (worn, 2-cm tear at top joint; surface abrasions to boards). Marbled endpapers. Early ink ownership inscription to front blank dated 1788 Light spotting and toning consistent with age; a solid, unsophisticated copy. Franz Josef Schwoy (1742–1806) was a Moravian historian and topographer based in Brünn (Brno), best known for his monumental three-volume Topographische Beschreibung des Markgrafthums Mähren (1785–1787). His works are among the earliest systematic historical-geographical surveys of Moravia and remain important sources for the region’s late-18th-century cultural and political history. Early regional history of Moravia by the author of the well-known topographical description of the province, printed by Traßler in Brno. An appealing example in period binding despite wear.
