Illustrated throughout with 51 black-and-white photographs by Walter Spies, accompanied by decorative Balinese ornaments. Text in French. Very good condition, with only light wear and minor soiling to wrappers.

An attractive K.P.M. publication devoted to Balinese religious practices, ceremonies, temples, cremation rites, and traditional culture. Particularly notable for the extensive photographic contribution of Walter Spies (1895–1942), the German-born artist, photographer, musician, and influential figure in the development and Western reception of modern Balinese art. The book was commissioned by the Dutch shipping company Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij as part of its promotion of travel to Bali.
