Panorama. Year 7 1929-1930
Panorama. Year 7, complete (Issues 1–10). Prague: Družstevní práce, 1929–1930. illustrated wrappers as issued. Very good condition. Complete seventh annual run of Panorama, documenting the magazine at the threshold of full modernist maturity within Czech graphic design. Art direction is generally attributed to Emanuel Frinta, whose increasingly assured layouts reveal a decisive move toward functionalist clarity — disciplined typography, strong photographic covers, and a growing preference for dynamic asymmetry. The journal presents cultural program of Družstevní práce, aligning literature, modern housing, industrial design, and progressive social thought. Advertisements for Krásná jizba and SBS furniture — several likely connected with architect Jan Vaněk — underscore the periodical’s role as both cultural review and vehicle for modern living. Year 7 is particularly important bibliographically because it immediately precedes the systematic redesign associated with Ladislav Sutnar in the early 1930s. As such, it captures the final phase of pre-Sutnar experimentation, where traditional magazine structure gives way to a more integrated visual language. Inv. G2
