Complete sixth annual run of the important Czech cultural periodical Panorama, produced at a decisive moment in the emergence of modern graphic design in Czechoslovakia. Art direction attributed to Emanuel Frinta, whose work reflects a transitional phase between late avant-garde experimentation and the fully articulated functionalism that would soon be introduced by Ladislav Sutnar. The design demonstrates increasing typographic discipline, asymmetrical composition, and a growing reliance on photography as an organizing visual element rather than mere illustration. Advertisements and exhibition coverage — particularly relating to contemporary culture in Brno and the activities of Družstevní práce — reveal the developing integration of modern design with progressive commercial practice. Issued immediately prior to Sutnar’s assumption of the magazine’s visual program in the early 1930s, this year documents the formative design environment from which his influential system emerged. Early runs are notably less often preserved than the later Sutnar-directed volumes, making complete sets from this transitional period especially desirable for collectors and institutions focused on Central European modernism.
