Drtikol, František (1883–1961). Portrait of an Unidentified Gentleman. Prague, ca. 1921. Original photographic print, 15 × 11.5 cm, mounted on paper and the original studio card measuring 32 × 21 cm. Photographer's embossed studio mark at the lower right of the photograph and decorative Drtikol studio stamp, incorporating the address Praha II, 730, at the lower right of the mount.
A formal bust-length portrait of an unidentified gentleman in a dark suit, photographed against a neutral background. An example of Drtikol's commercial portraiture from the early 1920s, demonstrating his controlled use of studio lighting and tonal gradation. The original mount incorporates geometric typography characteristic of the photographer's studio presentation. The reverse bears an extensive contemporary handwritten inscription in Czech, dated Christmas 1921. Very good condition.
