Czech Private Press P.F. 1929 Constructivist New Year Card, Limited 200

Soukromý tisk vydán byl… [A Private Press Edition Was Issued…] [Czechoslovakia, likely Brno, 1929]. 16 × 12 cm bifolium, original wire stitch binding as issued, housed in the original blue paper envelope with matching typographic program; front cover stamped in gilt “P. F. 1929” within a double-rule panel. Printed in black with vivid orange display elements on quality wove stock; pp. [4]. Numbered 133 from a stated limitation of 200 copies. An engaging and self-aware New Year’s greeting (P.F.—pour féliciter) issued as a miniature private press manifesto. The text humorously itemizes the production: setting in cicera Tramway type by J. Jentorád (“Kisinka”), printing by Franc Pistulák, punctuation prepared by “paní Anna,” with bookbinding executed in domestic workshops. Paper supplied by the Teraf works in Brno; inks by Smith & Son of Leicester. Particularly whimsical is the claim that one copy was printed on calfskin cut from a wartime drum and another on sheet metal—an unmistakable nod to the playful exaggerations favored by avant-garde printers.
