Special bibliophile edition, limited to 88 hand-numbered and author-signed copies. Of these, only 20 copies were issued with a specially constructed box incorporating an original assemblage by Jan
Švankmajer. Copies 1–10 were reserved as author’s copies, leaving only copies 11–20 available to the public in this deluxe form. This is copy no. 18/88, signed by Švankmajer.
The original assemblage, signed and dated by Švankmajer “J.Š. 2013,” incorporates modeled clay elements, textile, tacks, and other materials arranged beneath glass. The book and assemblage are housed together in a specially constructed black box. This bibliophile edition also features lithographed endpapers.
A major monograph devoted to Švankmajer’s work across film, animation, Surrealism, theatre, sculpture, and the visual arts, with essays by Bertrand Schmitt, František Dryje, and Ivo Purš. Includes an extensive illustrated biography, discussion of Švankmajer’s Kunstkamera, an anthology of his writings, exhibition history, filmography, and bibliography.
An exceptionally scarce deluxe issue combining the definitive monograph with an original tactile
assemblage by Švankmajer. One of only ten such copies made available to the public, and effectively both a book and an original work by one of the central figures of postwar Czech Surrealism. Fine condition, like new.
