21 × 19.5 cm. 409,[2] pp. Illustrated with 13 photographic plates, including three double-page spreads. Original white publisher's cloth, lettered in black on the front board and spine, in the scarce original dust jacket designed by Ludvík Feller.

The first appearance of Josef Koudelka's photographs in book form, issued several years before his first photographic monographs. Several of the images would later become iconic photographs from his celebrated Gypsies (Cikáni) series, making this an important landmark in Koudelka's bibliography. Although published as a discussion of contemporary morality in socialist Czechoslovakia, the volume is today prized primarily for its early Koudelka photographs.

Very good condition. Original wrappers with short closed tears, and light edge wear; a few minor abrasions and spots of soiling. Book clean and firmly bound with only light shelf wear.
