Současná surrealistická koláž 10 zemí [Contemporary Surrealist Collage from 10 Countries]

Současná surrealistická koláž 10 zemí [Contemporary Surrealist Collage from 10 Countries]. Brno: Dům umění města Brna, 1966. 4to. 4 pp. Mimeographed, stapled as issued. Original catalogue and list of works for the international exhibition held at the Dům umění města Brna, 4 October–12 November 1966. The exhibition presented 62 works of contemporary surrealist collage by artists from ten countries, including Max Bucaille, Guy Ducornet, Rudolf Haus, Josef Kremláček, František Melý, Albert Marenčín, Ladislav Novák, Václav Pajurek, Ger Punte, Hynek Rulíšek, Rikki and others. The catalogue opens with a Czech translation of a text by André Breton on surrealist juxtaposition and concludes with a page-long “Note” by Arnošt Budík, discussing the development of surrealist collage from Lautréamont and Max Ernst through contemporary practice. A scarce and highly ephemeral catalogue documenting the international Surrealist milieu in Czechoslovakia during the cultural liberalization of the mid-1960s. Later versions of the exhibition travelled to other Czechoslovak galleries and were accompanied by different catalogues. No copy of this original four-page Brno catalogue located in the current online market. Very good condition.
