Apvāršņi. Latviešu jaunās prozas izlase [Horizons: An Anthology of New Latvian Prose]. Süssen, Germany: Apgāds “Grāmatu Draugs,” H. Rudzītis, 1946. 8vo, 183 pp. Original illustrated anon. wrappers. Good condition, with closed tears to the spine, a moisture stain along the fore-edge, and some age-toning to the paper. Contemporary ownership inscription on title page. An anthology of Latvian prose published in Germany in April 1946, during the immediate postwar period, when large numbers of Latvian writers, artists, and intellectuals were living as displaced persons following the Soviet reoccupation of Latvia. Published by Helmars Rudzītis's Grāmatu Draugs, an important Latvian publishing house that continued its activities in exile. The anthology contains seven literary contributions by Kārlis Zariņš, Kārlis Klāns, Ēriks Ādamsons, Knuts Lesiņš, Olģerts Liepiņš, and Anšlavs Eglītis, together with a concluding essay by Lesiņš surveying the development of Latvian fiction. The selection documents the continuation of Latvian literary culture outside Latvia during the first years of postwar exile.
