1833 Farming Instructions

Mayer, Ernest. Anleitung zur besseren Benützung der Bauernwirtschaften, nach Volkbegriffen und Ortverhältnissen, für die Unterthanen der Herrschaft Krummau bearbeitet von ihrem Ober-beamten Ernest Mayer [Original instructions for the better use of the farms, according to popular customs and local conditions, for the subjects of the Český krůmlov domain, prepared by their senior official Ernest Mayer] Vienna: J.P. Sollinger, 1833. Mayer was the director of the Český krůmlov Higher Economic Institute for the theoretical and practical education of officials for the Schwarzenberg estates and also the author of the Anleitung zum Behufe der ausübenden Oekonomie für die Schüler des landw. Institut zu Krumau in Böhmen published in 1806 and certainly the first agricultural textbook published in Bohemia and one of the first of its kind in Europe. It shows best how efficient agriculture was taught in Český krůmlov and how the practical side was taken into account. The Český krůmlov institute educated modern and progressive officials. The peasants were spoken of decently, and the young adepts were also given to the care of the improvement of the villages and the betterment of peasant life and work.
