J.H. Kocman Reply Post Card Yes/No Mail Art
Kocman, J. H. Reply Post Card ("NO / YES"). Brno, ca. 1971.
Original conceptual mail art postcard. 10.5 × 15 cm (index card format). Printed in black on off-white card stock, featuring the words "NO" and "YES" enclosed within rectangular borders above the printed legend "JHK, REPLY·POST·CARD." Very good condition.
An early and scarce mail art work by Czech conceptual artist J. H. Kocman, produced during the formative years of his pioneering mail art practice. The stark binary choice of "NO" or "YES" reduces communication to its most elemental form, exemplifying Kocman's interest in language, participation, and the visual conventions of bureaucracy. Intended for circulation through the postal system, the card reflects the artist's exploration of correspondence as both medium and artwork.
A desirable example of early Eastern European conceptual mail art, dating from the period immediately preceding Kocman's internationally influential Stamp Activity project of the early 1970s. Scarce.
