Original paper merchandise bag, 31 × 13 cm, printed in black and red, with folded flap and original string closure. An exceptionally well-preserved example of Dutch modernist commercial design. Van der Leck reduces the firm’s name and locations to austere geometric lettering, punctuated by a red square and black vertical bar.
Designed for the progressive Metz & Co. department store, the bag translates the abstract visual language of De Stijl into an elegant piece of everyday retail packaging. This model is documented in the Kröller-Müller Museum catalogue, inventory K9.
