B. A. van der Leck: Leven en Werken
[B. A. van der Leck: Life and Work]. Leiden: Spruyt, Van Mantgem & De Does N.V., n.d. [c. 1958]. Large oblong 4to. 96[1] pp. Original pictorial wrappers.
Substantial monograph on the Dutch painter and De Stijl pioneer Bart van der Leck (1876–1958), published shortly after the artist's death. Richly illustrated throughout with numerous full-page reproductions documenting the evolution of van der Leck's work from early figurative compositions such as Het Ziekbed (1912) and Vier Soldaten (1913) to the increasingly abstract geometric paintings of the 1920s–1940s, including Bak met Appelen (1921), Dochter van van der Leck (1932), and Naakt (1948). An important contemporary survey of one of the founders of Dutch modernism and a key figure in the development of De Stijl alongside Mondrian and Van Doesburg.
