1975 Plastic Brutalist photo album

Budování muzea dělnického revolučního hnutí jižních Čech 1972-1975.1975 Photo album of the construction of the building of the Museum of the Workers' Revolutionary Movement of South Bohemia. One of the most important projects of Czech architecture of the 1970s, the building was designed by a team led by Prague architect Jan Malát and built between 1972 and 1974 as a major ideological project of the South Bohemian Communist Party. The construction required the demolition of eleven existing buildings, making way for a large-scale, sculptural concrete structure typical of plastic brutalism—a variant that emphasizes expressive forms and raw concrete textures. The building is sculpturally composed of several parts with all facades equally significant from all points of view. The impressive alternation of large glazed surfaces and solid structural walls, which are clad with artistically designed ceramic tiles, also adds to the expression of the building. A desire to connect the interior with the surrounding greenery, to allow new views of the historic part of the city and to emphasise the sculptural quality of the whole building by working with internal evening lighting through the large glass surfaces played a role in the museum's building concept. The memorial is connected to the museum by a terrace equipped with stairs. The commemorative space is defined by embossed concrete walls, and is dominated by a large natural boulder that was imported from the Valley near Nové Hrady. The natural shape of the boulder plays an important role in the layout of the museum's exterior, which is based "on the contrast of modern exact architecture and simple natural shape", as the architect Malát puts it.The building remains one of the few surviving brutalist landmarks in the region, as many similar structures were either demolished or heavily altered after 1989. Today, it is home to the South Bohemian Scientific Library. 28x37.5cm. Divided into sections: Construction of the Building, Transportation of the Symbolic Boulder, Creation of the Exhibition and Ceremonial Opening of the Building. Hand-painted lettering. Appearing in numerous photos are former communist prime minister Luboš Štrougal. 43 original photos of various sizes. Everything very nicely preserved.
