Kate Sanborn A Year of Sunshine 1886

Sanborn, Kate. A Year of Sunshine : Cheerful Extracts for Every Day in the Year. Boston: Tichnor, 1886. 8vo. [384] pp, ; 18 cm. VG condition. Bumped tips and borders. A prolific writer, scholar, and teacher, Sanborn was described by her brother Edwin Sanborn as a pioneer in opening the paths of independent work for women. The Seneca Falls Convention was held on July 19-20, 1848 in New York, marking the beginning of the women’s suffrage movement. The Seneca Falls Convention was directed by women’s rights activists Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. During the Convention, Stanton read the “Declaration of Sentiments,” a document modeled after the Declaration of Independence. One of twelve resolutions passed by the convention demanded women’s right to vote, which later formed a cornerstone of the woman suffrage movement.
