Praha – Prag – Prague 1927 Berlin published
Praha – Prag – Prague. Large 4to (c. 30 × 24 cm). pp. [4], 391, [approx. 50] advertisements. Text in Czech, German, and French. Extensively illustrated with halftone photographs, architectural drawings, charts, and city views, including full-page plates. Numerous images depict civic buildings, modern infrastructure, and architectural projects of interwar Prague, including work by Josef Gočár. At the rear, a substantial section of contemporary trade advertisements (covering architecture, interior design, publishing, fashion, transport, and leisure industries), themselves richly illustrated. Publisher’s original blue cloth, gilt-stamped Prague arms to upper cover, gilt title “Praha – Prag – Prague” to spine and upper board, gilt imprint “Edition Dari” blue patterned endpages. Condition: Very Good. Binding firm and square; spine slightly sunned, extremities gently rubbed. Contents clean, fresh, and complete; advertisements intact and well-preserved. Notes: Commissioned by the Prague City Council and published in three languages for international circulation, this volume was conceived as a civic and economic showcase within the broader European series Evropská výstavba měst a národní hospodářství. It documents Prague’s rapid modernization in the 1920s through photography, architectural projects, and statistical surveys, while also promoting its cultural and industrial life. The large appendix of advertisements—lavishly illustrated, often in Art Deco style—forms a unique record of interwar commercial and design culture in Czechoslovakia. Together, the documentary and promotional content make this one of the most significant and visually striking publications on interwar Prague. Scarce in commerce, especially in such complete and well-preserved condition. Inv. H9ho
