Gebrüder Thonet 1914
Gebrüder Thonet – Thonet. Illustrated Dealer’s Catalogue with Price List. Vienna, 10 August 1914. 25x20 cm. Original publisher’s printed portfolio titled THONET. Complete and collated: xiii pp. price list + 50 numbered plates illustrating furniture models with measurements. A remarkably scarce and substantially complete pre–First World War dealer’s catalogue issued by Thonet at the height of its international production network, just weeks after the outbreak of the World War I. Unlike ephemeral pricing circulars, this publication functioned as the firm’s primary commercial reference, presenting the full production range in carefully rendered plates intended for retailers and export agents. The catalogue documents the mature Thonet program, from the firm’s globally recognizable bentwood café chairs to hall stands, mirrors, seating suites, children’s furniture, and bedroom pieces. The accompanying price list survives intact — a rarity, as these were frequently replaced and discarded — greatly enhancing the bibliographical integrity of the set. xiii pp. price list; plates 1–50 complete. Original portfolio preserved; one-quarter of the front wrapper professionally restored, including the letters “NET,” discreet and structurally sound. Plates 3 and 7 with minor loss at upper border, not touching images. Plates 34–44 with small marginal stain; plate 44 with staining entering the illustration but remaining fully readable. Otherwise notably clean for a working trade catalogue. Inv. BX1
