Early 20th century Dye Sampler Bohemia
Dye Sampler – Erste Nachoder Dampfbleiche und Färberei [First Nachod Steam Bleachery and Dye Works], Ludwig Pick (Nachod, Böhmen), ca. late-19th to early-20th c. Clothbound booklet, 22.5 × 12 cm, with five fold-out panels. Each panel mounted with multiple dyed fabric samples tied in bow-shaped bundles, neatly affixed to numbered fields. The vivid stripes demonstrate a wide range of dyeing effects and colorfast combinations (Flammettes). At the front is a printed note from the firm: “I have the honor to inform you that, in addition to the flammettes contained in this card, any other designs may also be faithfully executed according to submitted patterns.” Produced by Ludwig Pick’s steam-bleaching and dyeing works in Nachod, Bohemia (today Náchod, Czech Republic). Cloth cover somewhat soiled, with minor edge wear. Panels lightly toned, but dye samples remain bright and well-preserved, with only slight fraying at extremities. Inv. H4ob
