Cubo-expressionist Slovak calendar

Teodor Jánoška – Kalendár na rok 1926 [A Calendar for 1926] Bratislava: Bratislavská J. Roth a. s., 1925. 4to (32 × 24.5 cm). Loose leaves as issued. A series of 25 single-sided woodcut plates: woodcut title and 24 monthly leaves printed in black and red. Each month is set in a striking cubist/angular display type with Art Deco inflections, accompanied by a bold woodcut view of Bratislava. Printed on handmade paper in original woodcut-designed wrappers. Very good condition. Some wear to original wrappers and 2-cm tear to lower spine; otherwise well preserved. Teodor Jánoška (1891–1960), a Bratislava-based glassmaker, printmaker, and painter, here demonstrates a refined command of woodcut design in both illustrative and typographic forms. Inv. BX4
