First edition of one of the principal works of Czech psychoanalyst, anthropologist, and Surrealist theorist Bohuslav Brouk (1912–1978), a provocative study examining biological fitness, degeneration, sexuality, and the social consequences of modern civilization. Published at the height of the Czech avant-garde, the work reflects Brouk's close intellectual association with the Prague Surrealist Group and his engagement with Freudian psychoanalysis, anthropology, and evolutionary theory.
