Published to accompany Jiří Kolář's major exhibition at the Galleria Schwarz, Milan, held from 2–31 March 1972. Edited by Arturo Schwarz, the catalogue is printed in Italian, French, and English, and includes biographical notes, a bibliography, and an anthology of texts by Jiří Kolář, Vladimír Burda, and Jindřich Chalupecký.

Profusely illustrated throughout with reproductions of Kolář's pioneering collages, rollages, chiasmages, stratifications, assemblages, and visual poems from the 1950s through 1971, including Les Papillons de Slovaquie (1968), La Ville de Liberec (1967), Cyprinus carpio carpio (1971), and numerous other key works. The striking wrapper reproduces Le Château mystérieux des Carpates (1962), one of Kolář's celebrated chiasmages.
