1950 The Death Factory. Auschwitz account

KRAUS, Ota; SCHÖN, Erich. Továrna na smrt [The Death Factory]. Prague: Mír, 1950. 8vo (20 × 13.5 cm). 300 pp. Original cloth (without original dust wrappers). First edition of this scarce early Czech account of Auschwitz, composed by two Jewish survivors, Ota Kraus and Erich Schön. Arrested and deported in 1943, both men endured the camp until liberation, and here record—only five years later—the industrialized system of mass murder, daily brutality, and the struggle for survival. Among the earliest published testimonies of the Holocaust in Central Europe, Továrna na smrt (“Factory of Death”) is a work of considerable historical and documentary significance, preceding the better-known memoirs of the late 1950s and 1960s. With Gottwald 5-year-plan congratulatory dedication on front pastedown. Very good condition. Inv. H5ob
