1935 Antonín Bardoun Po dvaceti letech
Bardoun, Antonín – Po dvaceti letech [Twenty Years Later]
Plzeň: Antonín Bardoun, 1935. Folio (23.5 × 18 cm). [26] pp., including wrappers. Loose bifolia as issued in original printed paper wrappers. Copy no. 37 of only 63 copies printed by hand press on handmade Losiny paper, signed by the author in pencil on the colophon.
Czech private-press artist’s book combining poetry and original printmaking. Bardoun (1894–?), a railway official, painter, graphic artist, and editor of angling periodicals, here reflects in verse upon the suffering he experienced on the battlefields of the First World War. The volume is illustrated throughout with original graphics: a linocut on the wrappers, an original etching, and four woodcuts depicting wartime scenes including trenches, military cemeteries, and soldiers in the field. Printed in Venezia type and issued as the third of the author's private-press publications.
An exceptionally small edition and a notable example of interwar Czech private printing, uniting expressive graphic art with a personal poetic testimony of the Eastern Front two decades after the conflict.
Uncut. Very good condition.
