1930 Masarykův okruh [The Masaryk Circuit]
Závodník, A. – Masarykův okruh [The Masaryk Circuit]
Brno: Polygrafia, n.d. [ca. 1930–1931]. 4to. 49 pp. Original illustrated wrappers. Numerous photographic illustrations throughout, including large folding plates with route maps, aerial views, technical road profiles, and construction schemes of the Masaryk racing circuit near Brno.
An rare account of the planning, construction, and technical preparation of the original Masaryk Circuit (Masarykův okruh), one of the most important early motor-racing venues in Central Europe. Written by engineer A. Závodník, the volume documents the selection of the route, road engineering works, surfacing methods, financial and organizational aspects of the project, and the circuit's role in the development of Czechoslovak motorsport. Particularly valuable are the detailed fold-out maps and profiles illustrating the course through Žebětín, Kohoutovice, Bosonohy, and surrounding districts, together with aerial photographic surveys of the circuit.
A notable example of early Czechoslovak automotive and civil-engineering documentation, enhanced by its striking modernist cover design depicting a racing car on the Masaryk Circuit. The work provides a rare first-hand record of the creation of the famous Brno road circuit that hosted international Grand Prix racing during the interwar period.
