Weiner, Richard – Mnoho nocí [Many Nights]
Prague: Aventinum, 1928. 8vo. 69, [4] pp. Original publisher's metallic silver paper wrappers with mounted blue title label on the upper cover. Illustrated with five drawings by Josef Šíma. One of 1,000 numbered copies, this being no. 563. Presentation copy of one of Richard Weiner's most celebrated and influential collections of poetry. Mnoho nocí is widely regarded as a key work of Czech literary modernism and among the texts that anticipated the emergence of Czech Surrealism. Contains five illustrations by Josef Šíma, Weiner's close friend and fellow member of the Parisian avant-garde milieu.
Inscribed by Weiner in June 1928 to K. Z. Klíma, editor, critic, and literary associate. In the inscription the author thanks Klíma for his recent article and expresses his pleasure that Mnoho nocí had made such a strong impression upon him. An attractive association copy of a landmark work of Czech modernist poetry, combining an important authorial inscription with early illustrations by Josef Šíma.
