Book decoration designed and cut in wood by Josef Marek; two-colour woodcut portrait of Alžběta Wiesenbergová after František Bílek by Unie v Praze; author's portrait by Slavoboj Tusar. Printed by Práva lidu, J. Skalák a spol., Prague. One of the most celebrated early books by Jakub Deml, issued at the outset of the First World War. The volume is richly illustrated with striking original woodcuts integrated throughout the text, including dramatic landscapes, portraits, and ornamental chapter headings characteristic of Czech Symbolist and Expressionist book design. The book retains the original printed errata slip with two corrections corrected in pen in the text. Very good condition. Signed by Deml. A few leaves with stains and minor corner losses, not affecting the text; two pages toned from the the errata slip.
